Jamal Mahjoub

Jamal Mahjoub has published seven literary novels, ten crime novels and a non-fiction book, A Line in the River.

His books have been translated into French, Spanish, German, Turkish and Arabic, as well as Dutch.
His stories and essays have appeared in The Guardian, Granta, Transition, Best American Essays and The New York Times, among others.
His novels include, In the Hour of Signs, the award winning Travelling with Djinns and most recently, The Fugitives.
His writing has won prizes in the UK, France and Spain.
He publishes crime fiction under the name Parker Bilal.
His crime series set in Cairo, The Makana Investigations, is currently under development for television.
He has run workshops in short story writing, crime fiction and creative non-fiction.
He has won several awards including the Guardian African Short Story Prize, the NH Vargas Llosa prize and the Etonnants Voyageurs Prize.
He has been a judge on the International Prize for Arab Fiction, the Etisalat Prize and the Caine Prize for African Fiction.
